Smaart Diamonds was founded in 2003 by Mr. R. Aroonachalam, following his voluntary retirement after a distinguished 22-year career in banking. The brand’s core strength lies in its unique value proposition: direct diamond sourcing combined with in-house jewellery manufacturing. This integrated approach enables Smaart Diamonds to offer exceptional quality at wholesale prices directly to retail customers.
In the formative years, the business was diligently supported by Mr. Aroonachalam’s wife, Mrs. Soundaram. Through their consistent efforts, the brand gradually gained recognition and built a loyal customer base.
In 2009, their son, Mr. Ramnath, joined the business after leaving his engineering career in the USA. He pursued gemmology in Mumbai with a specialization in diamonds, further enhancing the brand’s technical expertise. In 2014, his wife, Mrs. Chithraa, who also completed diamond grading, became an integral part of the team.

During the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Chettiar merchants traveled across Southeast Asia — from Burma and Ceylon to Malaysia and Singapore — engaging in banking, trading, and importing fine luxury goods. Among their prized possessions were diamonds, which they brought back not just as symbols of wealth, but as pieces of history and heritage.
